Treading Water
(© Michael Kentish)
You were 3 years older, from another school
Like fishes in the water, we inhabited the pool
And you would stay under, longer than you should
And we kissed underwater, I never understood
Making ripples, wrinkled hands and toes
Treading water, I could never let you go
A tentative decision, of tattoos on our arms
For you a pair of fishes, for me a question mark
And we made each other giggle, as we removed our clothes
The moonlight on the water, we held each other close
Making ripples, wrinkled hands and toes
Treading water, I could never let you go

The Trip, the Bell & the Salutation
(© Michael Kentish)
Hear the cries of Evening Post
As Market Square prepares itself
For another night of drunken traffic
The Trip, the Bell, the Salutation
Late night Sapna's on occasion
Selectadisc has gone, the city lumbers on
It’s been so good to see you
You haven’t changed and you haven’t stayed the same
They’ve dressed you up so neatly
I only recognised you from your face
Past the Trent Bridge Cricket Ground
The river makes its way around
Between opposing rivals
There was a time when I belonged here
The friendly face suggests I’m welcome back
Renovated change, in my mind old haunts remain
And it’s been so good to see you
You haven’t changed and you haven’t stayed the same
They’ve dressed you up so neatly
I only recognised you from your face

Gravel
(© Michael Kentish)
Roads along which you must travel
Your path before you made of gravel
You are where you want to be
You make the best of the chance you get
And after all the promises
Agreements made are meaningless
I cannot stop you doing what you want
Streets packed with people going
Somewhere until they feel they fit in
You are where you want to be
You make the best of the chance you get
And after all the promises
Agreements made are meaningless
I cannot stop you doing what you want

Empty Heaven
(© Michael Kentish)
The cracked reflection laughs at you
Beyond the leaves and morning dew
(Empty heaven)
Vicious thunder afternoon
Forgotten summer gone too soon
(Empty heaven)
Reluctant changes undergone
Nostalgic whispers linger on
(Empty heaven)
Behind the puzzle disappear
Expectant souls who wait to hear
(Empty heaven)
And I've already felt ashamed
Such a burden to explain
Why I could never see you
Never see you, never see you change
I could never see you change

Lost in Time
(© Michael Kentish)
Black and white, wound too tight
Where you’re sent, immersed in past events
No protective gear, wash it down with beer
Lost and found, evidence unsound
I'll fit you up
so fast your head will spin
Lost in time, no point in going back
Lost in time, no point in going back
No respect from peers, wonder why you're here
Ask yourself, do you want to reappear?
I'll fit you up
so fast your head will spin
Lost in time, no point in going back
Lost in time, no point in going back

Wrong
(© Michael Kentish)
Of all the promises, I ever tried to keep
Yours was the one, that mattered most to me
Those that we held dear, were sold along the way
All I leave to you, the debts I failed to pay
Once led to believe, we were favoured by the gods
Our reputations now, well and truly lost
Replaced by secrecy and codes by which we're bound
The legacy we built, is buried underground
Promise me my son, that you will wrong no-one
Regret to be informed, those plans have come undone
Divided all the spoils, that were never ours to gain
As different as we are, our fate will be the same
Promise me my son, that you will wrong no-one
Regret to be informed, those plans have come undone

Cartagena

Your midday sun so unforgiving
Your random downpour catches us off guard
Your entertainment demands payment
We may not understand each other
Your cobbled streets provide another turn
It's easy to hide 'round your backside of town
Where colonies were founded
And blood lines ended
But now you've been extended
Your big mouth, has brought you all your riches
And sandy beaches
You welcome strangers with your open arms
I know you only want my money
And I can tell you that's completely fine
I just gaze at you most brazen
Outside the walls lie sights aquatic
Your words are spoken most emphatically
Incarcerated shopkeepers will trade
In fish you've never heard of
There's shoals a-plenty
A coconut in half will save this town
Where colonies were founded
And blood lines ended
But now you've been extended
Even though the air is heavy
You welcome strangers with your open arms

Before You Came Home
(© Michael Kentish)
Warm sleeper stumble down
Reward is made
Can you trust a forecast
These days
Mark and Kara will take me there
It's almost 8
Kiss you goodbye
Before the gate
I had this idea
I wrote these words
And I hope you'll enjoy your day
We'll share our thoughts on…
All these matters unfinished
Will I move on?
Why must I clutter the floor with notes
Will I find you available?
What news you'll have?
Leave the room at least once a day
Then go back
I had this idea
I found these words
I wrote them down, I'll forget otherwise
And I hope you enjoyed your day
We can share our thoughts on...

24 hours of Jack
Exclamations of satisfaction
Bacon and pancakes
So good I can’t take it
Spice bowls on the shelves
We look after ourselves
You shouldn’t be calling
When you know they’re working
There’s a point when things fall into place
But for now just take a seat and moisturize your face
Vegetables are strained
Hockey rules explained
Drinks international
The dress code is casual
The situation room
Filled with Killer tunes
This cleaner from Venus
Claims to have seen the future, where…
There’s a point when things fall into place
But for now just take a seat and moisturize your face

Home Wherever
(© Michael Kentish)
There's no need for alarm, only windows and sun
Body clock knows what time it is, bath will run
Cup of tea, Phill's morning show, help you start the day
Make a list, Mickey Bliss break fast and we'll go
Hear the sounds in my head, get them onto a page
Explain the chords, sing the words, let the ideas engage
Walk the streets, ride the tram, take the bus till the end of a line
Wonder if there's a point, remember it's just a song
Got my friends and the ones that I love
Move possessions around and around
Make a home of wherever I go
Made a list of the things that I hadn't done
Had to stop putting off all the necessary ones
Found some clothes that fit for a change, threw the rest in a bag
Remind myself what it feels like to be content
Got my friends and the ones that I love
Move possessions around and around
Make a home of wherever I go
Brushed my teeth, went to sleep in the arms of a dream

30 Days
(© Michael Kentish)
Call received, plans are made
A house for guests, a place to stay
Bus constricted Glasgow streets
The final leg before we meet
The hospital grounds are sprawling, I find my way
When I arrive, you’re sleeping, the nurse requests that I wait
The spinal ward, 30 days
Everyone saved, lucky escape
Surrounded by unselfish care
Sudoku, tea, crossword clues
And you remain unbroken, a healing state
And when this step is over, you know that your home awaits

The night time brings the trees to life
The mating calls, the fireflies
And as we walk beneath the canopy of stars
We find ourselves continuing slowly down the path
That we have chosen
The peaceful lake, the cloudless sky
The constant movement in your eyes
And all the secrets that you keep inside your head
Won’t be extracted by the many questions
That you never answered
Remaining out of sight
They only show their eyes when it is night
The clouds they form, the rain it falls
A drenching sheet that covers all
And as I take a look at these surrounding lands
Slipping away from me is the only thing
That I ever wanted
Remaining out of sight
They only show their eyes when it is night
An angel lives and dies, a blessing in disguise
